The Morning Tea- PR

Good morning, the Supreme Court avoided telecom to become a monopolistic market as they gave telcos an additional 10 years to pay their dues with a 10% upfront payment. Despite, the great offers offered by Jio, customers should vary of monopoly. Other than complete control of the prices, a monopolistic market could control our media, cause preferential treatment, and once again spark the raging debate on net neutrality. India leads the daily rise in the CORONA cases which have crossed the 36 lakh mark. We together hold strong as we wait for this wave to pass.

In remembrance, of former President Pranab Mukherjee here are a few words of wisdom from him,

For our development to be real, the poorest of our land must feel that they are part of the narrative of a rising India.

MIND MONK

Try to eschew jargon while giving your presentations

Explaining the essentials of particle physics is extremely difficult. Before Feynman’s diagrams that earned him a Nobel Prize, there wasn’t a clear way to explain their meaning.

What he managed to do with his cartoonish, rudimentary diagrams was essential – dumb it down for anyone to get it (if they understood the basics). But this helped him find another purpose in life – explaining science to anyone at all.

The Feynman technique for teaching and communication is a mental model to convey information using concise thoughts and simple language.

When you’re presenting or explaining the new project to your team try and keep your speech jargon-free. Help your team understand things down to the most fundamental level.

The Feynman Technique is this:

  1. Identify the subject

Write down everything you know about the topic. Each time you run into new sources of information, add them to the note.

  1. Teach it to a child

If you can teach a concept to a child, you can teach anyone. Now you don’t have to find a child. It can be anyone who perhaps isn’t well versed with what you’re working on – a new teammate perhaps. Speak in plain language and be concise. Reminds me of the YouTube videos where experts explain concepts to people of various age groups.

  1. Identify your knowledge gaps

Highlighting knowledge gaps will help you when you collect and organize your notes into a cohesive story. What is it that you don’t know right down to the basics? Find that out and refer to the books.

  1. Connect the dots and build a cohesive story

Use analogies and simple sentences to strengthen your understanding of the story. If you tell a story it could rouse your listener’s passions and stay with them for a long time. If that’s not a job well done on your part what is?

MARKETS

Markets: A day after losing more than 2 percent, Indian equity benchmarks the Sensex and the Nifty resumed their upward march on September 1 on a volatile day of trading. The AGR verdict and announcement of auto sales numbers eased some pressure. Among the sectors, the telecom index jumped 3.81 percent after the AGR verdict while the metal pack jumped 3.35 percent. Global cues were positive on Chinese factory data that indicated an increase in demand. Liquidity, driven by high FII inflows in August, has provided good support to the market, despite concerns over high valuations in some sectors and stocks.

Think Tree Media – The Company with no CEO

Having started as event enthusiasts during college -planning and organizing experiences for F&B clients, Mayur Tekwani and his St. Joseph’s College of Commerce batchmate, Lanwin Pais decided to leverage their network of reliable contacts within the F&B industry and start a business. In 2015, two friends were working out of a small basement in a house in Bengaluru. The basement had a few laptops, chairs, a table, and a mosquito bat.

Mayur co-founded Think Tree Media when he was 22 -around the same age as Lanwin. But Lanwin had been organizing events for Bengaluru restaurants and pubs before Mayur. So, when Mayur frequented Lanwin’s events, the two started discussing the possibilities of organizing events like pub crawls, screenings, brunches, etc., together. With Lanwin’s focus on business development and Mayur’s expertise in marketing, the young graduates felt certain they should join forces and start a media house that specializes in digital marketing, branding, and production.

Although there were existing kingpins and traditional agencies catering to the bigger brands, they found that the same was needed for small and medium scale restaurant businesses as well. The duo, along with freelance designer Hugh Loren, started digital marketing and production business Think Tree Media in 2015 and began organizing programs, marketing campaigns, events, handling artist management, and more.

They didn’t require a huge investment to start operations. The lack of design in their team was met by Hugh who took care of the design department as Creative Director. Think Tree doesn’t have a CEO, and with the three at the helm, the business grew to a team of 27 and moved into a 5,000 square foot office in Benson Town. They landed over 50 clients across India. Since 2015, we have made over Rs 10 crore on the whole. In 2019-20, they are on track to make Rs 3 crore revenue.

The business also has clients in Australia. In November 2018, Think Tree registered itself in the country, started an office in Brisbane, and started to service outsourced requests from the country through a local partner. They are currently working on generating new leads in that market and onboarding more employees to service those clients.

SEO techniques (#3 of 3)

Optimized Metatags: Metatags are description tags and keyword tags. Metatags do not appear in our search results but can be used by our search engines to determine the Search Engine Page Rank. Google has announced that they no longer use metatags. But other smaller Search Engines like yahoo still rank according to the keyword metatag.

Other important factors that determine a good SEO rank:

  1. Title Optimization: Every page should have a title with 3-4 subheadings(if applicable). In most cases, our keyword should be present in the title of the text.
  2. Anchor optimization: The anchors’ text should contain relevant keywords as these are used by the Search Engines to find our page. Additionally, the broken links should be immediately removed.
  3. Content is king. We should regularly update our site with fresh, relevant, high-quality, and unique content.
  4. W3C compliant: These are a set of web development guidelines and our website and webpages should comply with those guidelines to achieve a good site rank.
  5. Quality link building or backlinks: This is having other websites to provide a link to our website. These backlinks act like upvotes or agreeability of our website and Search Engines tend to notice this. More backlinks lead to a better ranking.
